Ocarina of Time

Emulation

Emulators (for some platforms) are allowed on the Ocarina of Time speedrun leaderboards, unless the run time is 110% of the current world record in that category or faster. These cutoffs are tracked and updated live on this website, including for Category Extensions.

As of October 2026, the current state of the leaderboard emulator rules is a topic of ongoing discussion, and is subject to change.

Nintendo 64 emulation

The only currently legal emulators for Nintendo 64 are Project64 v1.6 and Project 64 v1.7, but for Ocarina of Time v1.7 is the recommended version (due to a pause bug that is automatically patched in 1.7). No other emulators and no other versions of Project64 are allowed at this time.

You can find version 1.7 of Project64 here.

You must use the default settings for emulation (e.g. Changing the graphics plugin to do GIM is not allowed).

For possible future consideration, but not currently legal are ares and Parallel Launcher.

GCN / Wii VC emulation

Dolphin (versions 5.0-15999 or newer) is the only emulator allowed for Ocarina of Time submissions—it is allowed for Wii VC runs and Master Quest only. It is not currently allowed for submissions of vanilla Ocarina of Time runs on the GameCube versions.

For Master Quest, Dios MIOS Lite v2.2 via SD Card homebrew is allowed, but not via USB, and no other versions of Dios MIOS are allowed.

Dolphin settings:

  • "Enable Cheats" must be un-checked
  • "Emulated CPU Clock Override" may be set up to 115% to fix Dolphin-specific slowdowns to feel more on-par with hardware (recommended)
  • "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" may be unchecked to fix the pause screen (recommended)
  • "Enable Dual Core" may be checked (recommended)
  • Any graphics backend is allowed
  • Internal Resolution must be "Native", Anti-Aliasing: "None", Texture Filtering: "Default"
  • All other GFX- and CPU-modifying settings must be set to their defaults
