Ocarina of Time
Goron City
Open Lost Woods shortcut without explosives
In Darunia's room, there are two lit torches, and two pots which drop Deku Sticks. Light up a stick and the flame to one of the bombs to light it.
You will need to refresh the flame duration on the stick at least once on the bottom floor to make it all the way to the shortcut without burning the stick. Lighting the bottom floor torch closest to the stairs then carrying it all the way to the shortcut rocks is possible, but tight. You can light a torch at the entrance to the shortcut to be safe, but it also plays a short cutscene so it is slightly slower.
Enter Darunia's Room
Clipping into Darunia's room can skip either Zelda's Lullaby to open the door as Child or Link the Goron as Adult. The megasidehop method can be done as both ages.
Megasidehop clip
Line up roughly as shown and megasidehop left. This clip is very lenient, so the setup shown in the video is for safety only. If Link is facing pretty far left, then you may need to hold right after beginning the megasidehop to direct Link into the hallway after the clip and avoid voiding out.
Ledge clip

This method is difficult and should never be needed.
Enter DMC through Darunia's room
Child - bombchu push
Compared to the bombchu damage clip, this is about 1s faster and doesn't cost any health, but it's more difficult to execute as the roll and left inputs at the end must be timed correctly.
- Target wall next to torch
- Turn 90 degrees left
- Backflip into the statue corner (release target to cancel sideroll)
- Dry roll
- Shield drop bombchu and roll (hold target + shield)
- Begin holding left after the explosion hits Link's shield
The video pause buffers the left input, but it is lenient enough not to.
Child - bombchu damage clip
Compared to the bombchu push, this is about 1s slower and costs 1/2 heart, but there's no timing involved at all.
- Target wall next to torch
- Turn 90 degrees left
- Backflip into the statue corner (release target to cancel sideroll)
- Dry roll
- Horizontal slash (neutral untargeted)
- Shield drop a bombchu and do nothing
Adult - explosive clip
The fastest way to enter DMC is to clip past the statue with bomb damage. This video shows many ways to line up the lenient angle needed for clipping, including:
- running towards the right wall, targeting to lock the camera, and walking into the corner (for bomb)
- targeting in the corner and doing 2x ESS turns right (for bomb)
- running towards the torch, targeting to lock the camera, and walking into the corner (for chu)
- targeting in the corner and doing 3x ESS turns right (for chu)
Adult - hookshot extension
Info by bakeneko
This is about the same speed as pulling the statue and using a bomb to break free of the grab animation, so it's useful when either using a bomb or taking damage is undesirable.
Sword setup:
- Target in the left corner and crouch stab once
- Sidehop right
Swordless setup:
- Target in the right corner
- Sidehop right, left, and right again
After either setup, both press hookshot as soon as possible and release target midair to get hookshot extension into the statue. Aim downwards a bit to hookshot the hookshottable collision behind it and make it through. Hookshot must be held, not tapped, otherwise you can void. The frame window for inputting hookshot midair depends on what's in Link's hand:
- Nothing in hand: frame perfect
- MS: 2f window
- Hammer/BGS/Stick: 3f window
- Hookshot: 5f window
Adult - hover boots megaflip
This trick can crash by double loading the area. On N64 it is very easy to crash, so be careful not to move Link or the camera towards the previous (loaded) room. On VC it is still possible to crash but the area has to be loaded a few times.
- On the top ropes, go towards the back wall depicting the two dancing gorons (the angle is lenient) and turn around
- Megaflip
- Equip the hover boots midair
- Hold right until Link lands back in bounds after the ground clip
- Navigate to the load zone using the minimap
Unload statue
If explosives can be used, this is usually a slower method, but it does not require explosives.
as Child
Relevant portion starts at 16 seconds in the video.
as Adult
This option is slightly slower than the methods above.
Spinning Pot HP
C-up timesaver
You can enter the first-person camera using C-up before the bomb explodes inside the pot, and you will gain control sooner than normal (interrupting the spinning cutscene).
Bomb strat
Stand on the 2nd level of Goron City on the side near the stairs, pull bomb when the pot has its neutral expression facing you (or between neutral and happy). It doesn't matter when you throw the bomb, as long as it's in the pot when it explodes, because it will always explode ~4 seconds after you pull it.

Bomb pot + chu rolling Goron
Coming from Darunia's room and lighting the torches, you can send a bombchu up the wall to hit the big rolling Goron while waiting for the pot to spin towards you for the heart piece.
Bombchu + Nuts after lighting torches
Strat by tob3000
This setup has 7 frames for the chu drop (2nd frame dims the torch). All 7 frames are shown in the video.
Update for nut throw: do 2 fast dry rolls when dropping the chu, then throw nut immediately after the 2nd roll. Fastest possible execution is 24 frames which guarantees it works for all chu drop frames (24-30 works for all frames).
Bombchus only
Comes from Darunia's room, so possibly a bit awkward if you don't have the door open.
Strength + bomb flower
Have to be a bit quick after lighting the torches.
Bomb Link the Goron
Bombing Link the rolling Goron can be done at any point, most commonly:
- by pulling a bomb and then running into the Goron with the proper timing as the bomb explodes
- simply walking into him with a Bombchu in Link's hands will drop the chu, which will immediately hit him if he is on the ground
- by dropping a chu that intercepts his path
Without explosives you can shoot an arrow at the bomb flowers near Medigoron as he passes by them.
It is possible to temporarily softlock by trying to speak to him too early, after bombing him but before he does his first 3 dialogue boxes. You can reload Goron City to fix this.
Missing his initial cycle when he comes closest to Link can be quite slow, so there are some consistent strats from different entrances shown below. Many are shown just with bomb, because hitting him with a chu usually doesn't require any particular timing.

Probably a bit trickier than the other setups, but useful in trade quest routes.

Damage clip into shop (Adult)
Video shows both a bomb and a bombchu setup.
Megasidehop clip to shop
As either age, you can do a megasidehop ground clip from the 3rd level of Goron City down into the shop. Note that the angles required are the same for Bomb vs Bombchu, but the exact method of clipping is different (see both videos below).
Bomb/chu setup from Medigoron
- Target fence directly outside Medigoron alcove (0x6c0b)
- Run forward along fence
- Hold up at end of fence to jump straight across the gap
- Sidehop right
- If using a bomb, walk a bit forward to the wall but don't move too much against the wall (a tiny bump is ok)
- Megasidehop with a left sidehop
As Child, move a step forward before the step 4 sidehop so you don't slip off the ledge.
Bomb/chu setup from under bridge
Using a Bombchu is the simplest for this setup:
- Target closest left wall under bridge (0xad9f)
- Turn 90 degrees right
- Walk downright to get behind the fence
- Hold Up to rub along the fence and jump forward
- Chu megasidehop with a right sidehop
With a bomb, between steps 4 and 5, walk forward a bit then do a backwalk megasidehop right. If you don't walk forward enough, you'll megasidehop back onto the upper level near the fence and you can just repeat from step 4 to try again.

HESS off torch in Darunia's room
Adult setups
There are many ways to set up this HESS. This video shows a few and documents frame data for timing the roll and target + shield inputs.
