Book of Mudora
The Book of Mudora (frequently shortened to just the book) is a Y-item that can translate ancient texts in Hyrule.
Location
The book is found at the Library, which is the northwest building on the South Kakariko screen. In order to get the book off the shelf, you will need the Pegasus boots to bonk the bookcase. This is a hard requirement even in heavily glitched speedruns.
Description
The book allows Link to translate a few ancient texts throughout the game. Some of these are purely story related, such as the text on the Master Sword's pedestal. However, three uses of the book have important gameplay effects:
- Using the book at the Desert tablet will allow Link to move the monuments blocking the entrance to Desert Palace. In the early section of the game, this is the only way to enter Desert Palace without using of major glitches.
- Using the book at the ether tablet on Death Mountain while equipped with a level 2 sword or higher will give the player the ether medallion.
- Using the book at the bombos tablet in the Desert while equipped with a level 2 sword or higher will give the player the bombos medallion
