A Link to the Past

Jingle Glitch

The jingle glitch is a data-spoofing door glitch that occurs when staircases to another floor are used on the same frame that a door opens. The result is Link being out of sync with where the game thinks he should be. The most obvious sign of this glitch is how the sprites will become displaced, and thus not visible. The only fix is to mirror immediately or otherwise reset the dungeon.

The glitch most commonly happens in two places:

Ice Palace jingle glitch

In the second room of Ice Palace, the door shuts behind Link when he enters and three bari are in the room. One of them has a small key that's meant to be used on the north door in the room to a spiral stairwell to the next room. If the player kills all three bari, the door back to the dungeon's entrance room will open.

If the player goes down the spiral stairs when the last bari dies, they'll get a jingle glitch. The safest way is to not kill all the baris in the room unless they are in your path. Because a burned bari will not "die" for the purposes of opening the door until after the full burn animation plays, sometimes players will use the fire rod to burn the final bari.

Players can minimize time lost to this by immediately noticing in the next room whether the floor zols (the little slimes that spawn up out of the floor) are present or not. If they don't spawn, then sprites are displaced, meaning the jingle glitch has happened, and the player should mirror immediately to fix it. If the player just continues as normal, the crystal switch won't be in the jelly bombfloor room, meaning the player can't progress past that point. And even if it were possible, Kholdstare wouldn't appear in his room, rendering the dungeon completely unbeatable in this state.

Here's an example video of the Ice jingle glitch.

Ganon's Tower laser eye wall

The glitch is possible to activate when climbing the stairs to torches2 from the laser eye wall room. The laser eye wall room shares a supertile with the first torches room. When the first torch Link lit in torches1 goes out, the shutter door exiting that room will close and the jingle will play, even though Link is in the laser eye wall room. If this happens at the exact same time that Link climbs the stairs to torches2, a jingle glitch will occur.

This is a pretty devastating occurrence, and less confident players should wait for the door closing jingle to play before advancing, especially when grabbing the full magic in the room. Players can immediately notice they have the glitch by seeing if the sparks are visible in the torches2 room. If they aren't, the player will have the jingle glitch, and the dungeon can't be completed normally. The best course of action is to mirror and re-climb GT.
