Screen Wrap

A screen wrap is an overworld transition glitch caused by jumping or teleporting past a screen transition.

Details

If Link can move beyond the trigger for a screen transition without touching it, he will "wrap" to the other side of the screen he's on. There are two main ways this is activated:

1. It can be done with a teleport. Teleports move Link a large distance in a single frame. If Link is near a screen transition, he can potentially teleport past the trigger for the transition, which will create a screen wrap.
2. It can be done with out of bounds ledge hops. The game never intends Link to jump "into" a transition, and all normally accessible ledge hops on the overworld don't take Link near a screen boundary. But through using clips or other out-of-bounds techniques, players can access unintended ledge jumps, and these may allow Link to jump into the transition. The "transition to new screen" routine won't run while Link is jumping, so in these situations, Link will "fall through" the transition and activate a screen wrap.

This can be a valuable technique on large screens, allowing the player to quickly get from one side to the other while bypassing intermediate obstacles. An example is that with screen wrapping, players can quickly reach Tower of Hera from the bottom of Death Mountain, skipping the need to climb the mountain, step on the Dark World warp pad, etc.

After doing a screen wrap, the camera won't update to track Link's new position. On a large screen where Link has wrapped a great distance, the camera won't be reflecting his actual position relative to the screen's tilemap and collision. Players will have to learn to navigate the screen with a broken camera.

Another effect is that Link's absolute coordinates will desync from his physical position. This can be used to set up mirror displacements.

These are commonly used tricks in RMG and MG speedruns as they allow players to quickly cross large screens. Examples include:
